Why work with parents?
All parents want to do the best for their children, but some struggle to do so. This is usually because they don't understand the important role they can play or how best to support their children's development.
This section will help you develop services to give parents the understanding, skills and confidence to help their children achieve their potential. The earlier these services are able to engage parents in their children's learning as part of daily life at home, the greater the positive impact on children at risk of learning delay and poor outcomes is likely to be.
The pages within this section will take you through the steps involved in creating effective services to support early home learning. They will help you:
- understand the rationale for involving parents in improving outcomes for children
- know how early home learning services meet statutory targets
- make decisions about who you are trying to reach
- think about the key issues in developing effective services
- decide what services should be commissioned or delivered to meet the needs of diverse and vulnerable families
- ensure you have a properly trained and supervised workforce to deliver the work.
